Interior Design Tips To Make Your Home Greener

By Cindy Carey

Nowadays, everybody seems resolute at finally going green, from public transport (forget your car; bike or walk instead) to lessening plastic consumption (no straws on my beverage please) to day-to-day things (I'm going to take the stairs instead of the elevator today).

To go green, however, is not just about doing one or two eco-friendly decisions when you feel like it, using a straw every now and then since you think you've done enough 'sacrifice' previously. Going green is a lifestyle choice and therefore needs dedication. It also needs to have a well rounded nature in your life as well, which makes the need bigger for you to finally adopt an eco-friendly habit in your home. One step closer to a more eco-friendly lifestyle is an eco-friendly interior design, which you could achieve with the help of Singapore interior designers.

An essential rule to going eco-friendly is to depend less on artificial things and use more of things that are naturally available. Think large windows that let in fresh air and sunlight, which can drastically cut your power consumption (and therefore, your bills too).

LED lights use up less energy and are therefore better alternatives to traditional light bulbs in the home. Paints that have less or zero VOC are also more recommended because the harmful chemicals in ordinary paint are likely to linger in the air and can harm you and your family.

This is also an excellent way to restructure your lifestyle, since the less you need, the less you consume, and the less you accumulate. And the cycle continues.

So going green isn't only about not using a straw for your soda today; rather, it is about letting go of the soda altogether and going for fresh fruit juice at home, using a glass you will not have to throw away after you empty it.
